Thank you for reading. The series will continue for a while, I’m just processing a lot of material.

This post was perfect. Brought me back round to my 20-year-old studying-abroad-in-London self, and to all the wondering I’ve done about Virginia Woolf in the decades since. Thank you.

Thanks for taking us along on trips we’ll probably never really take, but can vicariously enjoy, taking in the feelings as the sites and people pass by and the walks and bus rides absorb our attention, questioning who it was we remembered being at another time gone by but which overlays this, another’s reel playing out but felt as our own in reading.

Whew. This makes me wish I could have visited somehow. Thinking a lot about "strange symmetry" these days so this feels validating and activating. Also, thank you for the V Woolf quotes, which I'd never read, particularly the graph about the effects of sound. Excited to use that in class.

This is an exquisite piece of writing. The last part dovetails nicely with the book I’ve just started reading: A House in the Mountains: The Women Who Liberated Italy from Fascism, by Caroline Moorhead. It centers on four women. Natalia Ginzburg is not one of them but she is mentioned in the book and moved in the same circles, as did her husband, Leone. My mom grew up in fascist and post-fascist Italy and I’m only nite realizing how little she actually spoke about it. Thank you and wishing you buon viaggio as you travel back across the pond.

A lot of reflection bringing a year to an end very soon. I was at that Daunt event & I often pass that Madonna & statue - when I first came across it, years ago, it stopped me in my tracks, as it was so unusual, unexpected, I almost wanted to make sure my vision wasn’t deceiving me. Thank you Alexander, I enjoyed reading this very much

That makes sense! I would think about this. Thank you Alexander! It feels weird to address someone famous with their first name. Can’t imagine that if this is the 90s.

So fascinating that you are writing about the history of London.

Could you write a post and advice on writing a novel with a culture that is different to my own? i.e. I am from Hong Kong and I am writing a story located in London. I am still deciding if the characters would have any Asian heritage. Thank you!
