I thought twenty five twenty one was brave to set it on that period and not let that seize the story, thank you for mentioning it, Your class on setting sounds so tempting!

It’s the ground they stand on—the economic setting shaping their world, from the jobs they can take to the schools they go to, to where their parents are and whether they’re together. I do feel like Korean tv shows and cinema take economic class more seriously.

Hi Alexander, just wondering if the essay collection workshop sessions will be recorded? I would love to attend but unfortunately it’s on at 3am in Australia

Will you be offering the essay collection class again in the future? I have competing priorities this summer and can't attend but would definitely love to still glean some of this knowledge of at all possible.

Well, at some point yes. Unsure when. If you register you can also obtain access to the recorded classes, if that’s any help.

Thank you as always - I feel the same about my students and I appreciate all the links. Re: romcoms, Dirty Dancing has always stood out for the reason you mention, although now it could be set today. And Moonstruck is the only romcom I've ever seen in which the lead is not punished for her desires. We need more.

Just signed up - thank you! - perhaps I will finally get to organizing my essays about my far-flung family. Your past encouragement, even in passing, has always meant a lot! Eileen

Can you provide a bit more information about the class, it says first session but not how many in total, or is it just one session? either way I am interested.

Hi Colleen, the class on description has a single class meeting. The essay collection class has two meetings. Both will have prompts for you to do before the class and after; both will have suggested but not required meetings; both will have handouts. It’s not a simple lecture but more of a prepared meditation of a kind. In the setting and description class I will ask students to engage in a review of some work of their own as a way to prepare. I won’t be reading any of the work done for the class, as it will be larger than a workshop. If students want to organize into discussion sections I will be happy to do that, sections that meet separately from the class to talk over the course materials and to read each other’s work. I will answer questions, in class and on email. Is that helpful?
