I turned 30 in Tokyo in 1996, more than halfway through my decade in Japan, and I also remember the impact that Fame had on me during high school. It was also during high school that my mother "accidentally" rented the second La Cage aux Folles movie and, after watching it with closeted me, asked me if I thought that there were really any people "like that." I love learning more about you as a writer and as a person, because it's helping me see myself more clearly, too.
